The YouTube Home feed section has for awhile now been getting good at recommending videos to users that most find interesting, YouTube does this through most related content videos searched and watched by the user. However YouTube wants to make things more interesting by crafting out a new home feed section titled “New to you.”
“New To You” Mobile feature
On mobile, the new “New to you” feed will appear as a suggestion at the top of the screen section just below the app bar. The chip appears after the default “All” view and is delightfully hued in light rainbow colors.
When Taped will show a new feed of videos that are “way different from [your] actual recommendations.” YouTube says at the beginning of this month that it received lots of feedbacks from its users on how “their home feeds feel a bit uninteresting.”
This means that whenever a user leaves the app and return back day after day, time after time, user returns back to see the same series of video recommendations that they’ve already seen time and again.
Furthermore, while video content appears in this feed its lets “YouTube viewers explore more range of videos outside their typical recommendations,” though there is still a level of personalization.
“New To You” Desktop feature
On desktop side, YouTube is also featuring a similar prompt if users should scroll down the homepage and is yet to view anything. According to Google, this is different from the Explore feed, as that only focuses on specific verticals, like gaming, beautify, and trends.
However, like the mobile feature, its also personalized. Google said it would begin rolling out this new feature to more of devices over the course of this month. Meanwhile series of devices in Nigeria, US, UK, and France are already seeing the new in feed feature.
