Rumour has it that the popular streaming service intends to take on the world of gaming thereby adding gaming services to its list of offers like Google and Microsoft.
Over the years, the streaming platform has never wavered when it comes to its core service as a Tv and Movies On demand provider. However, it has quietly peaked into other media such as video games and the streaming service is taking a keen interest into that direction.
Reports has it that the streaming company has recently been recruiting executives to oversee the company’s overview into video game division. The report also says that the company has interacting with several “veteran gaming industries executives” with offer about taking up the division.
In addition, Netflix also intends to launch a “bundle” video games, similar to that of Apple Arcade. This far fetch proves the company to be steadfast with it proposition to expand into game sector.
Netflix Stated In a statement to Polygon, “Our members value the variety and quality of our content. It’s why we are continually expanding our offering. However, we are excited to do more with interactive entertainment.”
The company has earlier experimented with video game-like content, when its first released Black Mirror in 2018: Bandersnatch and an interactive episode in 2020 for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt which can serve as an insight for the company.
In recent times, they have also ventured into producing series off of video game narratives such as DOTA, Castlevania, and upcoming shows based on Magic: The Gathering, Sonic the Hedgehog and League of Legends.
It’s a development that could pave way for high-end gaming to millions of gamers with nothing more than a decent internet connection and a good monitor.
