On June 22, Facebook is rumored to be launching a new podcast offering. Once the tool is available, Facebook users will be able to access their favorite podcasts on the social media platform, as well as make and share sound samples from their favorite episodes.
The episodes of their chosen podcasts will appear on a new Podcasts tab, which has yet to go live but was previewed by Facebook in April.
The social media behemoth has also published its podcast terms and conditions, which are open to the public.
According to The Verge, Facebook has sent emails about the impending podcast function, which is set to launch on June 22.
The social media behemoth will let podcasters link their RSS feeds to Facebook, which will then generate News Feed postings for new podcast episodes automatically.
The episodes will be accessible through a new Podcasts tab on a Facebook profile, which was unveiled in April in conjunction with Facebook’s launch of a new podcast platform.
The launching date of Facebook’s new podcast function was also revealed in a report by Podnews earlier this month.
However, according to Podnews, several podcast publishers have gotten the emails, implying that the deployment may be broader than originally intended. Facebook has also issued its terms and conditions for publishing podcasts on its platform, which must be agreed to by all publishers before they may do so.
The terms and conditions appear to be quite normal, but they don’t specify what the social media site can do with the podcasts it hosts.
Podcast publishers will now be able to choose whether or not to enable clips on the social media platform with listeners on the other hand left to produce and share these clips, which will be up to a minute long, in order to “help enhance visibility and engagement.”
Twitch users have access to a similar tool
Facebook also unveiled Soundbites in April, which would allow users to create short, shareable audio recordings on the platform’s News Feed. It’s possible that the change is intended to compete with Spotify in the podcast market.
Spotify inked an agreement with Megaphone, a podcast advertising and publishing platform, in November 2020.
Megaphone’s resources would be used to develop targeted adverts, and Megaphone’s unique advertisement monitoring technologies will be made available to third-party podcast publishers.
