Following a recent resolution by the Russian parliament, Apple and other technology companies will be obliged to establish their headquarters in the country.
Foreign websites with more than half a million daily users in Russia will be obliged to establish a local branch of their company in Russia or a Russian legal entity, according to the Russian parliament.
The websites will be flagged as non-compliant on Russian search engines, and Russia has stated that they may be completely removed from search engine results.
Many of these IT businesses will have to create local offices in Russia because they will presumably be prohibited from advertising their websites and services in Russia.
Russia has stated that these websites operate outside of its jurisdiction, therefore this is an attempt to keep tabs on what they are doing in the country.
Apple has previously complied with Russia’s requests to keep Russian users’ data in Russia, and they are likely to comply with these new requirements and build a separate account in Russia.
